But when there are many different people or companies involved in wiring it's not a safe practice to rely on color codes! Being lazy I don't rewire machines in my shop if they work OK when checked out. However one Important thing to remember is never to rely on color coding! I'm my shop it helps me locate problems quickly but I'm the guy that wired it and follow my code so as to help me later. By using a standard coloring code I can easily tell how the control is connected, If I have a 480 coil then the control color is 480, colored tape on the control wire lets me know what is happening, brown with a band or gray tape is 480VAC common, I never use yellow or red wire in control wire because in my shop the Red and Yellow is always the created leg of my RPC power. Yes I know the color code is feeder wire.
